The Weather Center is primarily used as a location where students can access weather data and analysis applications for lab assignments and student research products.

The lab includes a weather-server cluster and satellite feed that receives and processes over 1TB of worldwide weather data daily, multiple weather analysis software packages for visually displaying and analyzing data, plus a large-screen projection system for group discussions and briefings.

Potential research projects include forecasting extreme precipitation events, forecasting tropical cyclone intensification, numerical modeling of meteorological processes, climatological analyses of weather impacts to aviation, and integration of meteorological information with societal data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
