Important New Student Information

The following information is very important to you as a new Embry-Riddle student:

There are two orientations you are required to attend.

International Student Orientation - Attendance is mandatory

Orientation is mandatory and you must be on campus by this date. If you cannot make it to the U.S. before this date, you will need to defer you admission. More information will be sent to you regarding International Orientation. Please be sure to check your email regularly, and you can also visit the website for more information on the orientation schedule.

These documents MUST be presented at check-in:

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • I-20’s forms or DS-2019

Students in non-immigrant status (H, J-1, A, and others) are required to check in with appropriate documents. By law, International Admissions must keep updated copies of your documents. You must notify the International Admissions office within ten days of any changes to your documents.

University New Student Orientation - Attendance is mandatory

During this time you will obtain your University identification card, register for classes and receive pertinent information to begin your academic studies.

Students must complete health requirements to be enrolled in classes at ERAU. You will NOT be able to register for classes until you complete this form! Students who fail to comply will have a medical hold placed on their student account. Please act now to avoid delays to your class registration.

Please visit our website to download the medical report form. This form can be scanned and emailed to: Please direct all questions to Health Services.

It is important to check in and attend International Orientation as vital information is distributed and discussed. Any questions you may have will also be answered. Please also take a few moments to watch a very short video on how to stay compliant with the Department of Homeland Security while you’re a student in the U.S.

Although the campus is located near the Daytona Beach Airport, you will need ground transportation to reach the campus. A taxi is approximately $5.00 per person. Airfares to Orlando may be less expensive than Daytona Beach. Groome Transportation, a bus service that operates between the Orlando airport and the campus will be the least expensive mode of transportation. Visit the Groome Transportation Website or email them at (We recommend you do not book a flight to Miami as there is no connecting bus service between Miami International Airport and Daytona Beach).
Upon your arrival in the U.S. at an airport or border post, present your student visa, I-20 or DS-2019 form to the inspecting officer to be stamped. Be prepared for delays and keep this in mind if you have a connecting flight. If there are any errors on your I-20 or DS-2019, inform the inspecting officer to note the corrections. Simple changes in information may cause issues in obtaining a driver’s license, Social Security card or University I.D. If there are corrections to be made, please notify the Office of International Student Services upon your arrival. If you arrive in the evening or on the weekend when university offices are closed, you will need to go to a hotel. If you mention you are a new student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the hotel may give you a small discount. For more information on lodging, please visit our website. During Fall and Spring semesters, all unmarried first year students under age 21 are required to live in University managed housing. There is no housing requirement for summer terms, but students would be required to move on campus for the Fall and Spring Semesters of the academic year. All students may apply to live in University housing. First year students must participate in Dining Service’s meal programs
Most off-campus housing is unfurnished and is not within comfortable walking distance from campus. A bicycle may be essential if you do not plan to have a car. Deposits for apartments and utilities are expensive with most apartment complexes requiring the first and last month’s rent plus an additional damage deposit. It is best to bring traveler’s checks to cover initial costs since local banks can hold checks drawn on international banks up to three weeks before funds may be available. Traveler’s check can be used to purchase textbooks, pay deposits and open bank accounts. You can also check out this Apartment Guide.
You must have health insurance as a condition of enrollment.  If you have insurance and wish to be exempt from the University group policy, the deadline for providing proof of alternative insurance is by the end of the second week of class.  This waiver can be found in Campus Solutions.
