Embry-Riddle's President's Speaker Series Continues in 2012

Beginning Jan. 13, Embry-Riddle’s President’s Speaker Series will resume at the university’s Daytona Beach campus.
Delivered through 90-minute presentations, the speaker series seeks to engage the student body, the campus community, and area residents in current political issues, trigger productive debate and produce a more educated electorate.
Each forum will be moderated by Marc Bernier, special assistant to Embry-Riddle President John Johnson.
All forums are presented by the President’s Office and are free and open to the public. Many of the events will be broadcast live and recorded on the Internet on 1150AM WNDB and www.marcberniershow.com.
The events are held at the Gale Lemerand Auditorium in the Capt. Willie Miller Instructional Center at 7 p.m.
Speaker Events:
Friday, Jan. 13
Zuhdi Jasser, founder and president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, will be interviewed before a live audience of students and the general public, speaking to the issue of being a good American. Dr. Jasser advocates the fundamental principles of the U.S. Constitutional and the separation of mosque and state. His family fled the Baath regime in Syria in the 1960s.
Tuesday, Jan. 17
Christine O’Donnell, a former U.S. Senate candidate, discusses her book, Trouble Maker, fundamental conservative principles and the changing way media often picks candidates. A book signing will follow the discussion.

Thursday, Jan. 26
Chuck Pfarrer, a former Navy SEAL commander and author of Seal Target Geronimo, offers inside stories on how SEALs conduct operations and an inside look into how Osama Bin Laden was eventually found and killed. A book signing follows the discussion.
Thursday, Feb. 9
Kendall Coffey, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District, known for his work in the Elian Gonzales case and the 2000 presidential recount litigation, and Mary Griffitts, a nationally known jury consultant, will discuss current legal issues and landmark court decisions over the last decade, with a look ahead to the upcoming Supreme Court session. The area’s legal community also will be invited to participate.

Monday, Feb. 27
Bob Gandt, an aviator and author, discusses his book The Twilight Warriors, the story of the largest land-sea engagement of World War II, and his interviews with dozens of participants in the battle.
Tuesday, March 6
Presidents Panel on Higher Education -- The presidents of Bethune Cookman University, Daytona State College, Embry-Riddle and Stetson University discuss higher education in a changing economy and how their institutions’ missions reflect the needs of the new workforce.
