Key Leaders in Aviation to Take Part in CEO/Student Roundtable at Embry-Riddle

Daytona Beach, FL, January 31, 2012

NextGen Advisory Committee

Top executives from the NextGen Advisory Committee (NAC), including Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions-Civil President John Mengucci and JetBlue Airways President/CEO Dave Barger will participate in a CEO/Student Roundtable on Thursday, Feb. 2, to discuss emerging trends in aviation.

“I am excited for the opportunity to meet, interact and learn from the student body of future aviation leaders and my NAC colleagues at Embry-Riddle,” Barger said.

The Daytona Beach campus event will be from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. in the Gale Lemerand Auditorium (inside the Willie Miller Instructional Center). Joining Barger and Mengucci on the NAC roundtable panel are RTCA President Margaret Jenny; SESAR Executive Director Patrick Ky;Boeing Vice President of Flight Services/Commercial Sherry Carbary; FAA Assistant Administrator for NextGen Vicki Cox; Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Director of Aviation Sue Baer; and MITRE Corp. Senior Vice President and General Manager Agam Sinha.

“We recognize the critical role that the next generation of aviation experts will play not only for Lockheed Martin and other industry leaders, but also for our partners in government agencies,” Mengucci said. “Industry, government and academia must continue to collaborate so that we can transform the nation’s air traffic system together.”

NAC is a public-private federal advisory committee formed in 2010 to advise the FAA on policy issues facing the aviation community in implementing NextGen, or the Next Generation Air Transportation System. NextGen encompasses the transition from ground- to satellite-based navigation and surveillance with goals of reducing fuel consumption, carbon emissions, noise footprint and improving air travel.

On Friday, Feb. 3, NAC members will tour the NextGen Test Bed facility at the Daytona Beach International Airport before attending a committee meeting to review recommendations and reports. The 10,000-square-foot facility is one of only three in the country and the only one at an academic institution.

“This is an important committee, composed of key leaders from the FAA and the global aerospace industry,” said Embry-Riddle President John P. Johnson. “I am glad that our students will have the opportunity to interact with the committee and to ask questions. What a great learning experience!”
