Embry-Riddle Celebrates Alumni and Students at Homecoming with a Glimpse into the Future

Alumni from across the country and students in Daytona Beach will enjoy a week of fun and festivities November 4-9, during Embry-Riddle’s 2013 Homecoming Week celebration titled A Glimpse Into The Future.

Special alumni events include tours of new buildings, a chance to sit in on over a dozen undergraduate classes ranging from quantum physics to world history, and an awards reception in the new Jim W. Homecoming entertainment features author and comedian Demetri Martin, country music rising stars Gloriana and special guest Erick Baker. A Movie on the Diamond, homecoming parade, tailgate party, air guitar contest, and eagleNIGHT Carnival keep the celebration going all week. 

Sports take center stage starting Thursday, November 7, with a women’s volleyball game. The Eagle Open Golf Tournament on Friday, November 8 will benefit student-athlete scholarships and Embry-Riddle athletic programs. The women’s volleyball team plays again Saturday, November 9, at 2:00 p.m. The men’s soccer team will have a Sun Conference playoff game at 5:00 p.m., and men’s basketball that night at 7:00 p.m. features the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, at halftime.

  • Chalk Art Contest
    10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Legacy Walkway
    Student organizations and individual students will compete for cash prizes by creating imaginative chalk drawings

Wednesday, November 06
  • Air Jam!
    8:00 p.m. | John Paul Riddle Student Center
    Air Jam! is the annual lip-syncing contest held during Homecoming. The competition is open to all registered student organizations that are willing to put their dance moves and lip-syncing skills on the line for a chance to win prizes and bragging rights

  • Women’s Volleyball vs. Northwood University
    7:00 p.m. | ICI Center
    Admission is free for students with EAGLEcards, and for children five and under. Admission is $3 for alumni with EAGLEcard, non-Embry-Riddle students with college I.D., military with I.D., senior citizens over 55 and children six and older. Admission is $5 for all others. Tickets may be purchased in the ICI Center lobby.

  • Movie on the Diamond
    8:30 p.m. | ERAU Softball Stadium
    Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy Disney’s Planes. The world of Cars takes flight in Planes, Disney's high-flying animated comedy revved up with action and adventure.

  • Alumni Registration and Return to Classes
    9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | Alumni Welcome Center, located along Legacy Walk
    Alumni will receive special gifts and a schedule of events, as well as a list of classes they can attend to meet former professors and current students.

  • Embry-Riddle Eagle Open Golf Tournament
    11:00 a.m. registration, Noon shotgun start | LPGA International Champions Course, Daytona Beach
    The 18-hole, four-person scramble will be followed by an awards ceremony in the clubhouse. The cost to participate is $100 per person for Embry-Riddle faculty, staff, and alumni. All others are $125. Sponsorships are available for $750 per foursome. Included are greens fees, cart, range balls, a catered lunch, beverages on the course, and appetizers during the awards ceremony. Tournament proceeds will support student-athlete scholarships and program enhancements for Embry-Riddle’s 16 intercollegiate sports.

  • Touch-N-Go Productions Presents: Demetri Martin
    8:00 p.m. | ICI Center (doors open at 7:30 p.m.)
    Martin has been a staff writer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and his "Trendspotting with Demetri Martin" was a featured segment on the award-winning The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Martin was featured on Comedy Central in his own one-hour stand-up special, and on Important Things with Demetri Martin, a fusion of original sketch and stand-up comedy, which ran for two seasons.
    The comedy show is free to the Embry-Riddle community (with EAGLEcard). Up to three guests may be admitted per EAGLEcard. Admission with military or student I.D. is $10. General Admission is $15. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.touch-n- go.org

  • eagleNIGHT Carnival and Concert Featuring Gloriana and Special Guest Erick Baker
    9:00 p.m. | Armstrong Parking Lot
    The weekend celebration ends with the eagleNIGHT party for students, alumni, faculty and staff. This family-friendly event includes a live concert, and carnival with a variety of rides. There will be an alumni tent for Eagle graduates to network and relax in between activities. Alumni should RSVP to Alumni Relations to be admitted to the tent.
