Scholarships

Funding should not be a barrier for your studies abroad. Please also do your own research, and you may be able to find more scholarships.

Here are some highlighted scholarships:

Internal Scholarships

These scholarships have been generously given by their respective college or program. You can only apply to the scholarship of the college that your major relates to. Most application deadlines are the second Monday in March. The Wessel Student Veteran Scholarship is due by December 3rd.

  • College of Aviation: $5000 (ten for $500 each)
  • College of Business: $3000 (six at $500 each)
  • College of Engineering: $5000 (ten at $500 each)
  • Wessel Service-to-Scholar Scholarship for Student Veterans (deadline changed to January 25, 2018)

External Scholarships

The American-Scandinavian Foundation

  • Open to most undergraduate majors
  • Award Range: $5,000-$23,000
  • Eligible countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Sweden
  • Candidates must be graduate students intending to carry out a research project in Scandinavia

Boren Scholarship

Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.  Awards range from $8,000 to $20,000 and can be used for summer programs.

Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan

  • Open to all undergraduate majors for a semester/year abroad
  • Award range: $2,500-$4,000
  • Country eligible: Japan

College Board

DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Open to most undergraduate majors
  • Award range: $3,700-$8,200
  • Country eligible: Germany

GTOS Scholarship

  • Open to all graduate and undergraduate majors
  • $2,000 available

German UAS7/DAAD Study and Internship Program Scholarship

  • Open to most majors
  • Awarded during the six months of university study
  • Internship possibility
  • Country eligible: Germany

Go Abroad

Freeman Asia Scholarship

  • Open to most undergraduate majors
  • Award range: $2,000-$7,000
  • Need-based funding
  • Encourages students to explore East and Southeast Asia

IES Need-Based or Merit Scholarship

  • Open to all graduate and undergraduate majors
  • Award range: $1,500-$3,000
  • Countries eligible: New Zealand, Japan, Ecuador, select countries in Europe

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

  • Open to all international students in Japan
  • Open to most majors
  • Financial aid for housing and medical expenses
  • Open to all undergraduate majors
  • Must have grade-point average of 3.5 or higher
  • Award amount: $1,000

Vertical Flight Foundation Scholarship

  • Must be junior to apply
  • Award amount: $1,000-$4,000

Go Overseas Scholarship

  • Any student applying to any study abroad program is eligible (undergraduate, graduate, US & international)
  • Deadlines may change from semester to semester
  • One $500 scholarship will be awarded
  • All majors considered
