Armando R. Collazo Garcia III has accepted a coveted Stillwell Fellowship, fully funding his impending graduate study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The fellowship is named after H.S. Stillwell, the founder of the Aerospace Engineering Department and Department Head for 32 years. Armando will be studying either computational aerodynamics or control. His research project with the McNair Scholars Program was titled “Evaluation of the Applicability of the Vortex Lattice Method to the Analysis of Human Powered Aircraft.” The research project led Armando to continue working on the idea of human powered flight. He completed a second research paper on the topic, “Redesign of a Human Powered Aircraft using the Boxplane Concept,” which he presented at AIAA 2017 SciTech Conference. Dr. Luis Gonzalez Linero advised Armando throughout the McNair Scholar Program with his undergraduate research, professional development, and preparation for graduate school.
