Tom Hilburn

Dr. Thomas B. Hilburn is a Professor Emeritus of Software Engineering and a Distinguished Engineering Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer, Software and Systems Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach, Florida, and a Visiting Scientist at the Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University.  Dr. Hilburn has also worked on software engineering research and education projects with the FAA, the Mitre Corporation, General Electric, Lockheed-Martin, Harris Corp, DOD, the U.S. Air Force, FIPSE, and the NSF. His current interests include software processes, object-oriented development, formal specification techniques, and computing curriculum development, and he has published over 60 papers in this these areas. 

He is an ABET Evaluator,  an IEEE Certified Software Developer, an IEEE Software Engineering Certified Instructor,  a SEI-Certified PSP Developer, and was co-editor for the ACM/IEEE-CS Computing Curriculum- Software Engineering 2004 project. He currently chairs the Curriculum Committee for the IEEE Computer Society Educational Activities Board and the Planning Committee for the IEEE Computer Society Professional Activities Board. He has delivered numerous workshops to faculty and industry on software engineering and education topics. Dr. Hilburn has also served on the ERAU Board of Trustees (1992-1995), and is a recipient of the Jim Lewis Outstanding Service award (2006), the Teacher of the Year award (1995), and the President's Award for Outstanding Faculty Member (1987).
