Human Factors & Systems Research Labs
Auditory Research Lab
Auditory Research Lab
The Auditory Research Lab in which one current project is the "Evaluation of Intelligibility of Speech Recorded and Transmitted via Bone Conduction Transducers." The intent of this project is to investigate how well listeners can understand speech signals recorded from various skull locations using a bone conduction (contact) microphone. The signals are transmitted to the skull of listeners using a bone vibrator headset. Directed by Dr. Maranda McBride
Human Systems Engineering Lab
The Human Systems Engineering Lab contains Human Learning
Performance modeling, UAV simulation, and a Modular Adaptive Interface design
and evaluation project.
Directed by Dr. Dahai Liu
Team Simulation and Gaming Laboratory
Team Simulation and Gaming Laboratory
The Team Simulation and Gaming Laboratory (TSGL) uses computer simulations and commercial video games to study team interactions and performance in the aviation and military domains. Current projects include collaboration with the US Army Research Institute and two other universities to develop online distributed simulations and debrief tools to train soldiers, and a program to improve pilot-ATC interactions with cross-training in a PC-based flight simulation. Co-Directed by Dr. Jason Kring and Dr. Beth Blickensderfer
Technically Advanced Aircraft Performance LAB
The Technically Advanced Aircraft Performance LAB (TAAP) mainly focuses on evaluating new equipment, such as the Automatic Dependent Surveillance- Broadcast (ADS-B) navigation and other computer/Satellite based displays that relieve much of the general aviation cognitive workload. Recent sponsored projects have compared eye tracking (point of regard) in experienced and novice pilots and new training methods, Scenario Based Learning, of TAA instrumentation. Directed by Dr. Jon French
