Associate Dean

Michael Hickey

The recently completed academic year was a particularly successful year for Dr. Hickey. He has continued his excellent research, securing renewal of one of his NSF grants for $258,000 and graduating a Ph. D. student in our joint arrangement with UCF. In addition, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and was named to the Board of Directors of Space Florida. He also has been a major participant for ERAU on the funded planning grant for the Governor’s School ($500,000 planning grant).

In the College of Arts & Sciences he has been our main leader in following up research opportunities and encouraging our faculty participation. He has encouraged proposals in each of our academic disciplines and continues to do so. We received funding through internal university grants for four of our new faculty, and Dr. Hickey is mentoring a handful of young faculty to prepare applications for NSF Early Career Award.

Foremost in my mind is Dr. Hickey’s tireless efforts in promoting and helping to prepare the proposal for the new Ph. D. program in Engineering Physics. Without his central role and the full administration support this proposal would have gone nowhere. We are hopeful for final approval.

In addition, Dr. Hickey published 5 papers in peer reviewed journals and presented 3 papers at national conferences over the past year. Also, he has continued his service as a university representative at several FSGC meeting, served on several university committees, and taught a first year physics course for engineering students.
