Mathematics department creates new research center in Geophysics and Planetary Physics

The department has recently created a research center in Geophysics and Planetary Physics which has eight faculty members. Much contribution has been made by this group since its creation including: the extension of the Benjamin-Feir instability to three dimensional oblique waves and fully non-linear waves in deep water, and the proof of the existence and uniqueness of the solutions for solitary waves under influence of molecular viscosity, and numerical simulation of tornado-like vortices around complex geometries.
