Intelligent Aviation Transport Platforms Lab

The David B. O'Maley College of Business has implemented state-of-the-art aviation and transportation software and platforms, including Sabre Solutions and Amadeus Reservation Systems, into the Intelligent Aviation and Transportation Platforms Lab.

Embry-Riddle is one of the few educational institutions with direct access to these platforms and real-time data from airlines. Students use these systems to gain hands-on experiences with software used directly by industry.

The College of Business uses Sabre Solutions software for teaching and research. Sabre, the leading provider of software solutions for the airline industry, provides the College with access to their scheduling, profit, and fleet management modules.

Students can model and design airlines, networks, and fleets. The software allows students to examine various analyses on scheduling and planning, so they can evaluate their best options for profitability and use of resources, all of which are skills valued by industry.

Sabre Lab Outcomes

  • Introducing students to the latest state-of-the-art software solutions for operation, marketing, and planning of airlines
  • Providing an excellent platform for conducting research for both faculty and students
  • Providing a unique niche for students in terms of employment opportunities
  • Engaging with a world leader in the field and collaboration on mutual research areas

The College also provides access to the Amadeus Reservation Systems, a traveler life cycle management technology. The system has a global impact since it operates in 195 countries. The College of Business has access to Central Reservation Systems, which spans all transportation modes (airlines, trains, ships, and cruises), hotels, and rental car companies. These systems are extensively used by these industries throughout the world.

Amadeus Lab Outcomes

  • Students learn how the reservation systems works in term of inventory, pricing, itinerary, connections, and revenues
  • Students learn how the engines within internet retailers such as Kayak, Expedia, and Orbitz work for flight listings and pricing
  • Students will be able to take a test through the College of Business and, if successful, receive a certificate by Amadeus entitling them as licensed and professional travel agents
  • The College will have access to unique databases that drive the entire reservation systems, inventory, and pricing for research purposes
