Highlights from Past Events
- Captain Al Haynes recounted the day when an engine failure caused the loss of all hydraulic systems. He spoke about crisis management, teamwork and managing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- In the first annual ERAU Researcher of the Year lecture, Dr. Vladimir Golubev discussed his Micro-Air Vehicle (MAV) research, which was conducted in close collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory, and was focused on the prediction and control of unsteady MAV response in gusty urban environments.
- James Bradley spoke on “doing the impossible.” Bradley’s father was one of the men in the iconic World War Two photograph of the flag raising on Iwo Jima. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller, Flags of our Fathers, which was subsequently made into a film by Steven Spielberg (directed by Clint Eastwood).
- A noted CNN international correspondent and one of the few Westerners to have interviewed Osama bin Laden, Peter Bergen discussed bin Laden’s death, uprisings across the Islamic world, and what they might mean for oil, terrorism, Israel and America. He is the author of many books, including The Longest War: The Enduring Conflict Between America and Al- Qaeda.
